what kind of temps/climate do blackberries like? We are trying some out (subtropical climate), but I have never seen anyone around here growing them so I assumed there was a reason for that.

Even though they fruit in summer, they like cool climate.
I had a plant that was near some shadecloth that was tightly nailed to a post, it got in between the cloth and post.
the part of the plant that was behind the cloth was in full fruit and leaf in the middle of winter while the rest of the plant had died back, It kind of went against what it was meant to do, but showed me that with protection from frost, less light and a place that was damp more often than not, they absolutely thrive at any time.

I'm an evironmentalist an all but I have a real problem with the whole noxious weeds concept.

It would be different if there was some actual political or community will (or better yet both) around doing something about them but there isn't. There are a whole stack of weeds and fauna that would be more properly described as exotic. So many things are now part of our environment and unless there is actually a concerted decision to eliminate noxious species they are hear to stay.

yea there are many foreign things that i would love to see wiped from the australian wilderness, but some of them are great things when they are not in that environment, llike blackberries.
