A place to discuss aquaponics

Hello All,

My wife and I just purchased a farm in northeastern Tasmania that's already well positioned for organic production.

Until we construct our greenhouse, our first aquaponics system will be inside our barn - we're interested in winter production of tomatoes. We want to start small with a couple of used IBC totes we want to make into a 1,000L fish tank for rainbow trout and two garden beds. Should that trial prove as successful as hoped, we plan to scale up for our greenhouse and expand our year-round selection of produce.

Finding the used IBC totes - preferably food grade - in Tassie isn't proving so easy. Can anyone direct us to a source? Having to source them from the Mainland is a pain as the shipping to Tasmania really increases the cost due to the size taken up on the ferry.

We're so pleased to find this Forum and hope to contribute to the community as we gain experience with aquaponics.

Welcome check the usual for sale sites, Gumtree, Trade a Post and the local papers. Any place processing food. Oil companies or bitumen/roadwork companies for starters. If you are doing organic check your organic fertiliser supplier as well and choock farms/processing plants.
