You would be adding unnecessary complication. unless you over-stock the fish you will not need solids separation IMO.

with I guess about 400L of filtration (wet media) in your GB you should be able to handle up to 20 fish.

Groovy water switching valve, nice work. have you considered using a tougher hinge?
maybe an SS shaft drilled through the end fittings?

Media is around 750L of scoria!

In all honesty, I wasted a good deal of pvc tube and fittings working out the teetering flow diverter mecanism. The reason it is made like it is, is that anyone can go to a hardware store and make one, and even amongst hardware store soloutions it is cheap and requires few tools to make. In hindsight it is so simple i dont understand why it took me so long to settle on that design. It just works, it's been working now almost as long as this thread, with any problems i have i posted for everyones benefit.

The purpose of this system is for my learning. And i want to give back to the forum anything i can, because forums like this are the only reason i knew these systems are possible.

sorry I missed to 750L you mentioned earlier. and scoria would have more biological surface area than hydroton.

So you could have 30 or maybe more fish.

I mentioned the hinge thing because I saw you said it jammed, I guessed the large pvc pipe diverter slides over the smaller pipes yes? Maybe the pvc on pvc may cause wear unless suitably lubed.

Hello Roman, I'm fairly new to BYAP and am not that technically/mechanically sound. I love your teeter system. I am designing a small AP system for a local organic farm for my internship. They want a small, but expandable system and I was originally thinking constant flow with multiple beds and an indexing valve... BUT then I stumbled upon your awesome take on solving that problem. Don't over think things, keep it simple!

Could you PM me and describe a little bit more how that teeter system works. I'm not sure if it's a little more advanced than I would be able to do for a first run at AP systems, but it just seems so genius. Thanks in advance!

Hey Stanimal, sorry about the lack of reply! I will post more detailed photos on this thread! It really isn't that complicated. A few close ups and a few words and you will know all.

I would like to report that the teetering flow diverter has been running with no stoppage since the addition of a lick of vaseline all those posts ago. The system has been neglected.

ph has not budged. Still 7.5. Everything else is at 0. Only the spinach and the tomatoes have been doing well. Pouring in some more seasol this week has stopped the tomato dying. It's rejuvenating well, and setting lots of fruit. Capsicum has done nothing. It's frozen as it was when planted out from

It's much easier sowing seed than digging in the scoria.

The system has also been expanded. I had to! To move the water and scoria without double handling!
