I'm in London, not got anything working yet but I've made a start on a single IBC system.

Just wanted to say that I'd seen those dog bath style beds cheaper on ebay.

Hi everyone, my name is Andrew and i recently started a small commercial aquaponics farm in Manchester UK, indoors. I thought you maybe interested as there arnt allot of folk doing it on a largish scale.

I have a 1500sqft building with one ground floor DWC bed and one elevated DWC bed to expand into, both at around 1mx20m.

I successfully completed the ammonia cycle last week. I recorded all my test results from the cycle period and posted them on twitter, there are also pictures of plants, tanks, DWC beds etc (@inponics)

My goal is to increase awareness in aquaponics, provide quality food to the local community and fertiliser to whom wish to buy.

I am currently waiting on the first crop to come in so i can distribute some samples to restaurants grocers and the public.

I will keep my twitter account updated with all of the new happenings at inponcs.

Hi UKers. My name is Solly and I'm another newbie with a system up and running in the Banbury area. IBC FT, 4 half blue barrel GBs in a cheap polytunnel. Looking for ideas on what people are doing to insulate their systems in the winter. Currently have 10 goldfish but will switch to either trout or carp, any advice on which fish work well over here? Just completed cycling and plants starting to take off.

Hey , another Brit here , down in Cornwall
I'm running the smallest system I dared build (just to see what was viable for me ). Now planning much bigger system , just have to find a bigger place to put it!
Using the 135l tank mentioned earlier , just make sure when you buy em that you get the virgin plastic food grade ones , as some are made from recycled materials from non food grade sources.
Also those tanks tend to bow out when they get the sun on them , I covered mine with Mylar , but they still bowed, just put more pebble in to level out gb surface

Hi Brits! I'm also building a system down in the east-Midlands and would like to here if there's any other aquaponics hobbyists down here. We should all try and start aquaponics in our communities, and get your local council to build systems. Maybe other towns and cities will catch on too.

I too am surprised by the lack of continued interest for AP in the UK.
Lots of initial enthusiasm which slowly disappears.
I am sure that our unpredictable weather is a factor but , “It ain’t easy”
However I also think that the media and ‘celebrity/farmers/green guru’s’ have mislead us that Tilapia is the fish for AP.
As I am sure you are aware Tilapia need warm water.
I am convinced that the future of AP in our country is with our native species.
Now I want to eat my fish. So Trout and Perch are my choice. I also think the situation with ‘Red Crayfish” (American) is crazy. You can catch them but not transport or keep them.
I lost Trout last summer when the water temperature in my FT was consistently above 22*C. At the moment I am having to heat my tank to keep it above 4.5*C
You cannot fight seasonal temperature changes. You have to plan, stock and adapt to them. Manipulate at the edges. This was a major part of my decision to add European Perch.
Our Australian cousins, God Bless Em! have being doing this for years. Rotating Trout and Barramundi/Silver Perch etc Now this is not big companies but ordinary people. Spending their own hard earned money. Time and sweat to enjoy and refine the benefits of AP.
We still have, ‘celebrities’ receiving hundreds of thousands of pounds of TAXPAYERS MONEY for “pilot projects”
As I said recently on a UK Aquaponics website, “If I hear one more time that Tilapia is the future of AP in the UK . I will scream and scream until I am sick!”

Hi all, just registered here as I'm starting a setup here in the UK.

Spent a lot of time researching and have just splashed out of some kit to start building my first IBC based setup. Plans are to put this into action at my mothers house, but once we have had our current landscaping project completed to build a second system there.
