thx jayendra yea wood ash.. or the remnants that is left back from burning wood. its fulled with alot of minerals and high in potassium magnesium iron phosphorous and extremely high in calcium. extremely low in chlorides and nitrates sulphate since they are lost as gases as the wood burns. and is rich in all the micronutrients a plant needs because as the tree grew these nutrients was uptake by the plant before are released after its burnt.. but mind u its extremely caustic so u have to monitor your pH as u add it. well u can see y it is the best replacement for the normal buffer we use.

Good idea with the wood ash cookie.

I thought this was a good read for using it in soil gardens - http://www.growveg.com/growblogpost.aspx?id=217

What is interesting is that in parts of the amazon, evidence has been found of "slash and char" where the wood is not completely burned, but turned to charcoal.the soil is so amazingly rich in those deposits, that there is an industry dedicated to the sale of said soil. Keep in mind that this soil has been under a rainforest for hundreds of years, and it's nutrients have not been depleted.

Sounds Are you taking ashes and mixing them into the water? What kind of ratio? Love to hear some detailed explanation of what you're doing. Sounds very logical.

well the ashes I got is completely burnt... less charcoal is better when comes to AP.. because charcoal actually absorbs and locks away nutrients within itself.. especially ammonia and nitrates... application is will I really sprinkle a bit onto the bed water inlet and let the water distribute the ashes.. use it just as any other buffer.. but u can see y this is much more superior to the others... no more need for seasol and those stuff.. one thing though because its very alkaline it can only be used in mature systems that can counteract the high pH.

application rates.. I believe in small additions daily.. I got an EC meter to monitor my conductivity to maintain a steady conductivity because I don't wana shock my plants.. if u water conductivity changes to rapidly high it can actually slow down water uptake in the plants.. no water uptake no nutrients absorption.. if while adding the ashes and the conductivity is increasing that means I'm adding faster than the plants are using so I stop a bit.. whats best bout ashes make sure its only wood ashes and the wood cannot be treated with chemical.. cannot use slate coal only wood coals.. but so far my addition is 5% weight of my day fish food input I use as ashes.. no be calculation I just choose the number to trial out.. just started using it under a week.
