I've come out of the shadows of lurkdom cos I have inherited an old *stock trough* that I'd like to use to get me going...

Problem is the enamel is chipped and I have read somewhere that bitumen paint (non petroleum!?) can be used, if so are there toxic or non toxic to fish ones?

looks like there is a fair bit missing...
It might be better to just line it .

pond liner for food grade. Maybe, sure it wouldn't cost more than 30 bucks

this tub is repaired/non-leaking crack, I need a very low cost 1st system to justify the process and further expense

just get some water in there and go!
if you think there may be some risk to your health in some way, you can always have the water tested by the local water authority, they do it cheap here if you ask the right questions

and additives , does it have an MSDS?

eco- though you said you had access to one, I could have given you a few.

just looking at the data says to cure for 2 weeks at 20c and then thoroughly rinse not for enclosed areas, did you see that?
