Cheers Dave & glad you like the posts.. Been a tad slack of late  & hope to post another update on the system soon.. Been busy tidying up the dirt patch that past few days..

Hey Bear.. Good news mate :thumbright: When do you think you'll get the new fingerlings ? Still going with the jades ?

Things got bit on top of me here so haven't made much of a move with the fish farm.. All I really need to do is to level the ground, cut the tanks & drill some holes so I suppose it's nearly done :D :shifty:

Finished off the new RFF for the AP set up a few weeks ago & finished the stand for it yesterday.. Hope to have all the other plumbing bits worked out during the week so I can plumb it in on the weekend at the latest..

Cheers mate, shall ring around the locals... Still haven't got my call back from the brew shop to say they have their new lot in..

:D They are a bit like a big boys toy store :D Bianca knows I've had fun there when I walk straight around to the back of the house

Cheers Chaps :thumbright:

Hi Rob glad every thing is ok, sticking with Jades as they will give the quickest value for money from the RFS. Did a couple of redos and in the end set the top of the 50 mm SLO at the 800 litre mark. Level now sits around the 900 litre mark. Using airstones in the 200 litre bio filter and have 120 litres of C1 in there.

Will be picking up the Jades this weekend in a share buy with BF. Take care

Haven't been looking any further for the potassium bicarbonate but will let you know how I go before I buy any Bear :thumbright:
Have you got the Jades yet ? Still thinking of adding 30 or so sleepy into one tank & Jades in the other in the new system..

Took out 8 Jade perch from the system today.. 2 are off to my parents, 1 is dinner & the other 5 are for the freezer..
Ended up with an average weight of 611g/1.35lb..
The heaviest weighed in at 855g/1.9lb & the smallest 453g/1lb..
Think I will bake one Thai style tonight.. Would like to steam it but the steamer is too small :/

Also swapped out the old radial flow filter for a new one (after a false start) & installed the Bio filter..

It meant enlarging some holes to take the 50mm/1½" Uniseals but that was easy enough.. As soon as the bio filter looks like it's doing its thing 2 of the beds will be coming off line & we will start sorting out the new lay out..

Looking good mate, got the Jades but a bit small for my liking. He had sold all the bigger ones to stock a dam some where. 10 mm to 25 mm and I have lost 12 already. Not very happy. They are in a double basket in the new system but going to move the basket to my big tank and see if I lose any there. Salted them before they went in and 5 ppt in the tanks so do not believe I would introduce any thing into the system.

Looking forward to your progress. Cheers

PS Great looking fish Bianca should be pleased.

Hi BnBob,

Your thread has been a fantastic resouce... im guilty of incorporating much your your design in my plans :thumbright:

Just quickly, do you find the 50mm piping gives you enough flow to the GB's? Or would 65mm be better?

If you went 65mm, would that size pipe work ok with the RFF and MBF, especially the uniseals on the curved barrels???

Thanks heaps

Greg

Hi mate & Chers :) :thumbleft:
The 50mm is still choked back to the 40mm after the bio filter in the system at the moment.. I have 2700LPH coming from the FT & it looks to be handling the flow fine this way..
Never got around to changing the system & it looks like most of it will be ripped out now we have some new tanks to play with

I think they should do fine mate..
Have had some issues in getting the solids out of the FT when I up sized the pipe work though.. I found that our flow rate from the pump into the fish tank isn't really fast enough to get the solids travelling up the SLO so put a 40mm reducer on the pipe & it looks to be working better now.. :thumbright:
Just a note on RFF fiters, you need to keep an eye out on the retention times so the solids have enough time to drop out.. Ours is a bit small at 50-55L & would of been better if I went with the 200L barrel.. As it is now the water only stays in the filter for just over a minute which doesn't allow the finer partials to settle out of the water.. The ideal retention time is about 4 min from memory but I would be happy with 2..

Hey Greg.. They are made in Korea & need to be imported at this point as no one else sells them.. Most buy the cheap units from Ebay.. Have made enquiries but am still waiting to hear back on price at the moment.. Will post here when I have the info..

Enjoyed the video Rob. That's been a good system.

------

I was looking at the venturi producers web site and looking at the pumps they are designed to go with. I'm not sure it will help since I'm not planning on buying one but I'm trying to get a handle on the flow needed to run one of these. Can you tell which version you have?

I think this is the company just based on the look of their venturi

Thanks

Hi Scotty..
I am using the 25mm/1" jobbies from that mob.. Have a few 32mm/1¼" units as well but haven't played with them yet..

On the chart below the pictures of the venturis they say the 25mm model will pump out 900LPH/237GPH (US) of air at a depth of 1m/3' using their B-055 pump which runs at 4200LPH/1109GPH (US)..

Pump page with flow rates in chart.

Hope that helps some mate..
Cheers

Hey Rob,
You're growing broad ripple - just be careful of volunteers - they pop up everywhere! And its a doozy of a plant, growing into winter with multiple stems.

Here is 1 plant that grew massive in my side yard.

Thanks Rob,

Looks better than what I'm getting with my spa jet venturi. Of course I don't have quite the flow their pump does (or the one you have for that matter). May have to switch to my backup 2400 gph from the other system and see how it does.
