Hi every body. My name is Justin. Ive been seeing some nice pics of peoples fishtanks being used as a aquaponic tank. So now im gonna give it a try. This is my tank 5ft 300ltrs (i hope the pics is attached lol) there are glass braces on the inside which i intend to grow a few ferns on. Ill post pics in other forum areas . So gonna he looking for loads of advice. Im a complete novice so im sure there Will be many a stupid Q that's probably been asked a hundred times lol

Go ahead with your questions. The major problem I see with most aquarium builds is the lack of light for the plants on the top, they are usually inside, and the people don't understand why the plants are getting all leggy and dying off.

welcome to the forum. I note that you have African cichlids in your tank. Typical pH required for them is 7.5 to 9. From which lake are they?. The pH requirements will not be ideal for plant growth. It can be done but you probably will struggle to get exceptional growth. It will still assist to reduce your nitrates. You may want to consider plants with low iron/higher pH requirements.
