Hello all. My wife and I live on Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay in Oahu and have recently started an aquaponics system. We are really limited by the size of our backyard and what base housing will allow (we're pushing it).

System specs:
50 and 75 gal (189/283L) sumps connected
200 gal (757L) FT w/ 30 Tilapia (all less than 1/4lb 113gm)
(4) 26 gal (98L) GB's
(1) 75 gal (284L) GB
Mag 7 pump
CHIFT PIST

System is about 3 months old after cycling. All tests read 0.
I have almost 15 years of saltwater reef tank experience so caring for fish, the plumbing and the testing is no problem... growing veggies is a whole new ball game. Mrs. Chap has a lot of gardening experience but we are learning as we go and doing a lot of reading here.

Everything is level, the yard just slopes a lot and the fence follows the yard. Sunshade is going on top of the pvc trellis and some bamboo fencing will eventually wrap around all the cinder blocks.

Aloha

G'day Chap.... :wave1:

I imagine that your garden will be bigger than the one I can see in the background there before too long... :)

Wow, your neighbourhood looks like an image from the Sims game my daughter plays. Nothing out of place. Nice system you are creating.

Thanks. Yeah, the Base is pretty strict on how things can and can't look, which is nice to maintain the appearance but can be a PITA if you want to do anything outside the norm.

Nice looking system.

How long do you think you'll be stationed there?

Bob H,
We have been here for almost a year, I have 3 more years until I hit the 30 year mark so we are pretty safe in thinking we won't be moved again.

We see this system as a 3 year learning experience until we get back to Houston and set up a large green house and AP system.

Are you still in?

Semper Fi,
Chap

Hi Chap,

Wow! How did you survive 30 years? Senior staff, warrant or officer? Was with MASS-3 as UPS-1/TPQ-10 tech. I've been "medically retired" since 68. Graduated from Khe Sanh, TET class of 68. VA has me at 80% service connected these days. I've had enough chemicals so that’s why I'm into aquaponics hook line and sinker!

Semper Fi,
