On some other threads there has been some technical discussions about pumps recently.

For those that are interested this article goes through many of the technical details about pump selection. It mostly deals with centrifugals but it has some great information.

Note on page 30 there is a pump curve that shows that as head decreases power usage goes up. Not true for all pumps though.
