I know it isn't anything new and I've seen the graphs for Silver Perch and Trout on the forum before.
If anyone missed it here's a link to a page that gives an estimated weight for the length of several common species. Including Golden perch, Murray Cod, Bass and others.

http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/rec ... ater/weigh

I mentioned it in another post but thought that not everyone would see it there so decided to start a thread so it is easier to find. :)

And for the pedants out there I do realise that you'd use a rule, not a ruler... :-P

Does that mean I can work out my weight by knowing my height? :)

Call me exceptionally pedantic, but I'd use scales!...

As EB and Arbe pointed out, when harvesting last years batch of Trout I had all kinds of shapes and sizes, from large slender ones, to large slender ones but with fat bulgy guts, and even a short stumpy one (that I had unimaginatively nicknamed Stumpy) that appeared to have almost no peduncle, much in the same way rugby players have no neck, and was very "stocky"... almost like a bear can with fins. He was a fair bit shorter than the average length, but his weight was on par.

Cultured fish are sheltered from the selective pressures that reduce variance.
