Greetings from Canberra Australia. I've been hiding in the background of these forums for some time reading and oggling at all your custom fab AP systems out there. The level of creative engineering that you guys (and girls) possess is truly amazing!

I'm completely new to Aquaponics and have only recently started digging my way into backyard gardening, though my extended family has been heavily involved in the local biodynamic/permaculture small scale farming scene for as long as I can remember.

I'm totally in love with technology and the idea of using modern techniques to grow massive amounts of fresh food right my backyard excites me to no end. My long term dream would be to setup a large enough (but still manageably small) commercial AP system to supply local restaurants with fresh fruits, veg and all manner of aqua related edibles.

I'm hoping there might be a few local Canberrans on these forums who currently run AP systems or have past experience and who are willing to give a newcomer some friendly advice on where to start and what -not- to do before it's too late. If there are any of you out there matching this description please PM me.

Cheers and thanks for all the fish,

Ewan (aka Funkymatic)

not a bad idea to do your apprenticeship in the backyard before you invest in a commercial venture.

Hi Ewan
I'm in Canberra and just started my first basic IBC setup (using instructions from this site) in January. I'm now in the process of building something bigger. Hopefully ready for silver perch season in a few months or otherwise trout next year.
My only tip is to read LOTS of the threads in here and ask questions. It's a very friendly forum!
Good luck

Hi Ewan,

It's nice to have someone nearby at the same stage of building an AP.

Welcome.

Craig

You're totally right. I have no delusions that the dream goal is a long ways off. I'm going to start small in my backyard and hopefully grow from there.
