So today I got the bottom and more legs on the GB. Tomorrow I'm going to buy the pond liner and instal that.

Now I have some plumbing to figure out! I had some odds and ends lying around, I also have some piping that I kept from an old pool that we tore down this spring.

My wife and kids got some more staining done as well. All and all not a bad day!

Thanks guys!

Well after spending half the day getting pond liner and trying to get plumbing materials, I think I made good progress the rest of the day!

I got the pump plumbed to the FT using my scavenged pipes.

I also managed to get the pond liner into the first GB and the bulkhead for my bell siphon. I started to put the trim around the top of the GB, but the Mosquitos started to come out. So I had enough. I still have to trim the liner as well.

Oh yeah, I also managed to buy some plants. I got some herbs, oregano, rosemary and basil. I also got a watermelon, cantaloupe and two types of cauliflower. Can't wait to plant them!

I have question. How deep is the layer of dry media supposed to be on top of the GB?

It can vary but roughly an inch (2.54 cm) or a bit more. Sometimes you want to plant seeds so you may want to raise the water level - It's good to be able to adjust or change out the standpipe for this. As the plants get larger you can lower the level if you want but I just leave it.

I am very interested in how the temps in your GH fluctuate through out the year. I am in South Dakota and have been wanting a GH just like this. the thing that has held me back is the extreme hot and cold we get here.

Thanks Scotty! That's a great idea being able to adjust the height of my stand pipe. I think I will do that.

As you can see, I haven't enclosed it yet. It would be too hot to work in there. I'm in the same boat as you with the extreme weather changes. I will defiantly let you know. I think I'm going to have to shut it all down for the winter, but I'm thinking I can winter the fish in the tank. I'm thinking a bubbler and a light bulb in a box over the tank. I'm not sure how the plants will fair in the winter. I guess I will find out. :headbang:

Lol a sauna would be a great idea..... Although it might be hot enough in there! Thanks! The wood is cedar and it smells really good, unfortunately it's doing a number on my allergies :(

Are you adding an additional grow bed on the other side?

Yes I most defiantly am. I just wanted to get one up and running so that I can start growing and cycling. We are well into our growing season, hence the greenhouse, I'm hoping it will extend the growing season quite a bit.

I am also planing on putting two remote IBC GB's on the outside of the greenhouse.
