Hello,

I think I should start by saying thank you. I've been lurking around this site for a couple of weeks, soaking up all of the great advice and experience contributed by so many people. I'm amazed that (1) I had never really heard of Aquaponics until a few months ago and (2) I seem to be the last person on the planet to find out. So be it -- better late than never.

I am trying to restrain myself. I sold a kayak, two paddles, a bike rack, and a dresser we weren't using (so far) to raise capital to pay for my fledgling AP system. At this point, I think the best move would be to start small and modular/expandable, and then scale-up once I get the hang of things. I'm spending most of my free time researching systems and layout options.

My goals for this year are to get my main outdoor system up-and-running, build a lean-to greenhouse for it, and then create a smaller, indoor aquarium system to get me through the winter.

Speaking of winter, I think my main challenge this year will be the clock. (Well, the clock and user error.) If winter comes on early this year as it did last year, I won't have much time to get this thing operational and productive. I will have to scale efforts accordingly.

Anyway, I look forward to learning from and ultimately contributing to this fine forum. I will spend the next few weeks immersed in Sketchup and this website; hopefully I can return with some decent drawings for review and commentary.

Cheers,
Varmint

Hey Varmint,

Nice to see another on the Eastern shore. Welcome and good luck with your system setup. I myself am racing the clock, and testing my wife's patience with our empty check book, to get my greenhouse and AP system up and running.

Good luck
