Twintragics, it's a 300gal livestock tank (galvanized steel) it looks a little different in the one pic because of the insulation.

Hey Rupert, I'll stop slacking off when you aussies stop stealing the sun, all I got is this darn moon to work by.

GotFish, I insulated with 1 1/2" rigid foilfaced foam insulation, I faced the shiny side to the tank and used duct tape to hold it in place then I backfilled with sand. Look close at the 3rd pic, you can see it laying on it's side in the background.

Well, yesterday I got the base back-filled but I only got half the GH up. Mother nature wasn't cooperating, as it rained most of the day. I found a nearby source of 3/8" (10mm) pea gravel, it's a little more expensive than some other places but it's a mix of smooth riverstone and crushed stone and it's washed, so it should cut down on my washing time a bit.

Hopefully the rain will stop today and I can put up the last wall and roof after work. Now that the space has taken form, I'm reconsidering the 3 bunk feeder layout (I figured I might, that's why I only bought 1 right away) but I'll know better when the GH is done.

Looking at your proposed layout again...
As well as having problems getting your wife to snorkle, there will be a heck of a time reaching the growbed on the far side of the fish tank. Maybe if you just use 2 growbeds placed as you have them, and move the fish tank all the way against the back wall of the greenhouse?

Think it might be a case of moving the back wall up against the tank Janet...

He buried it ... :D

I plan on using a couple movable planks as a bridge, I can't move the tank because it's already in the ground. I gained 7" of height inside, and the tank lip only sits 1" above the floor. Because of the 2x10's that I built the base from my short wall is now around 67" instead of 60", how feasable would a 2 tier growbed be on the west wall, if I grow shorter plants, considering the first level could start a few inches above the floor?

Oops, I forgot you were moving that fast. If it's buried, I guess we should leave it there.

Two-tier beds to the west....the west end is the short end, right? What goals are you trying to meet by doing that? The concern I would have would be accessibility issues. If you are balancing on a plank, do you want to squat down to tend a low growbed? I would rather have waist-high growbeds if I have to balance while tending them.

anything's possible Steve. If the lower bed gets sunlight, then no problem. Lettuce doesn't get tall enough to prevent you from putting two beds tiered with a 67" rise.

I think we should make him fill in the hole and bury it somewhere else. He needs to slow down anyway.

And wash all the gravel with a toothbrush. That's the best way, you know!
