Hey Hezzy
I have 25 trout and 7 silver perch in the tank at the moment.
Will be taking a perch or 2 out this week to eat. :)
Should make a start on building a floating raft grow bed for the system this week hopefully. :)

Hi rob
How do sp an trout go together,
ok if sp are bigger than trout I've been told
I made a floating ring that I have duckweed growing in so when it's full trout will eat whatever grows over the side, quiet a good idea I thought,
Plus the trout like to hide out under it as it floats around on the water
I'll put a pic up tomorrow for you ..
I am currently running 60 trout

I haven't noticed any problems with keeping them both in the same tank, but the silvers are a decent size.
Yea wouldn't mind a pic of that floating ring.
I did have some duckweed. Silver perch loved it and my young fella tipped the container over that had the rest in.

I have found that too rod especially when I run constant flow for a while. As soon as I switch back to timer the solids drop off the pump and problem solved

Yes Ben I found the same thing I thought running cf would be better but your right FD works better I think the pump we have for system is OK but when trout do there thing there's quite a lot of it the only thing that worries me with FD one the water quality and two the ammonia build up I found not over feeding works for me I still feed them one and half tbsp morning and the same in afternoon on the weekends they get a little extra and they are growing well

Hey rod. I only cleaned the grill. Had a bit of buildup in it but nothing major.

Oh yea. I'll take it apart and have a look next time. Did you have a buildup of gunk in there?

Well.. The upgrade has started. Went to bunnings this arvo and got a few bits and pieces.
Couple of sheets of structural ply, a few length of 90x35 treated pine, pond liner. Is going to cost a bit more than expected. Spent $330 already.

Will try to knock it off in the next week at work.
Still haven't worked out what I will make as the stand.
The bed will be 2.4m long, 1m wide and thinking 400mm high.

I had another ammonia spike. All good now. Nitrates are really high. Would say up around the 160 mark. That's why I have pulled my finger out and have started the new bed.
I will put a half blue barrel filled with media in that flows into a container(yet to decide) with a filter pad which will flow into the new DWC bed.
I am thinking of trying a dragonfruit plant in the blue barrel. Has anyone grown one in AP?

Cheers
Rob

Found this workbench to use as a stand. Will just give it a tidy up and plonk the new bed on top once finished.
Image

Made a bit of progress on the new grow bed. Ran out of screws and need a few more lengths of timber to finish it off.

Internal measurements will be 2m long, 1m wide, 400mm high.
What I have found out is I don't think I will save any money building this myself instead of buying a second growbed from BYAP.
Anyway, it will be more satisfying looking at it full of veges knowing I built it.

I should get some lettuce cups and start some seeds so they are ready when its all finished.
Wondering if the hydro shop in Bunbury would have them.

Then I will need to source a piece of poystyrene for the top. Maybe Clark Rubber??

Cheers
Rob

"Found this workbench to use as a stand."

All I want to know is what kind of person just randomly finds workbenches to use as grow bed stands. I just went to look, where are my workbenches that should be in my garden/garage for me to find? There weren't any, life just isn't fair. :D
