Like all bugs and bits and pieces they are good as a supplement feed but that's about it. Are you asking if barra will eat BSF or are you suggesting it as a sole feed?

Thanks Charlie. I meant will barra eat them. I don't currently do barra but planning a rebuild/expansion and the wife is on my back to grow barra instead of perch, so been reading about temps/insulation/heating, etc. Also I see a lot of BSF in my compost heap so was thinking about having a go at raising them.

Yes Bara will eat them but Bara are not as tolerant of a high fat diet as trout so I'd be careful how much you gave them.

Without serious research you would be guessing but if you fed them a low protein, low fat fish food but supplemented with BSF that would be my best suggestion :dontknow:

Ok, thanks. Doesn't seem worth the trouble. Probably better to just stick with a good pellet feed. Cheers

Most likely find that winter is too cold for BSF, rest of the year is good. You will also need to heat for the barra which will be expensive.

If you have chooks feed the BSF to them. They will love you for it. I do exactly that however not this time of year as it's too cold. I also supplement my SP with meal worms as a treat once a week. It gets them interested even in cold temps

Not as expensive as ignoring my wife's wishes.

Wish I had chooks. My wife's two neurotic cavoodles would drive me crazier than they do now.
