i dont see a fish tank?

so its all NFT tubes? Im no expert on pottery but i was reading somewhere that plaster of paris is just calcium carbonate? so whatever type of clay you have used in those balls could well be what is bringing up your pH.

You dont seem to have anywhere for bacteria to grow? there would be maybe 50 Litres of media(pottery balls) in those small cups?

You need somewhere for the fish waste(ammonia) to be turned into nitrite and nitrate, in most systems this is the gravel the plants are grown in. because all your growing area is NFT tubes you are very short on gravel volume. You could fix this by either putting in some gravel growbeds or turning your swirl(RFF) into a biofilter by filling it with bioballs or K1 biomedia and an airpump.

This would explain why you are not getting much plant growth, because you dont have enough bacteria to make the plant food. Have you been doing ammonia, nitrite and nitrate water tests?

A 2% daily water top up. That sounds like a lot.

Can you prepare the water before you add it?

Jordan is a very hot place and 200 litres is a very small system.

This thread has gone off subject, do we want to rename it or move it in some way?
