Took some time but system is up and running with 10 silver perch in the tank and some capsicums and spinach in the growbed.
Just general questions. I'm using a flood and drain method running my pump on a timer every 15 minutes. Is there a guide as to the water level for the growbed for optimal plant growth? Currently the water is about 5cm under the media level. Also, has anyone grown root vegetables or garlic? Wondering if my water/flood level will be too high if this is at all an option?

Flood to the point where the media surface stays dry. Root veggies grow ok just a little bit out of shape I've found

A nice tidy build there rubber.
Your water looks really clear (I think I can see it through the gap GB-FT). You must have done a good job rinsing your media.
That's untreated timber over the FT I assume. Don't want any nasty chemicals leaching into the tank giving you Springfield 3-eyed fish.
I notice you used the pressed steel or plastic base under the FT rather than under the GB. Just keep an eye on the plastic at the bottom of the GB. After a while holding the full GB water weight it might need some additional support.

The timber is treated pine so I may end up with 3 eyed fish! I did not think about that at all. Would you think treated pine will leech nasties into the water?
The pine planks are my gb support currently so I may need to rethink what I use as support there.

Oh and thanks Charlie. With the rain season started in Perth it's hard to know if the media is dry because of the rain or a high flood level. I'll just monitor but seems plants are growing well.

I'm new to the game also. That's a sweet system you have going on. Look forward to seeing your progress.

Treated pine can leach some pretty nasty chemicals. And the fish live in a closed system so they live permanently in whatever chems are in the water. I'd lose the treated pine mate.
