With me having no idea how much a solar system costs, is that quite expensive for a IBC chopped in half? With $50 worth of timber trim around it(which does look quite neat)? Are the panels, battery & electronics expensive to buy new?

The solar components would be around $1000 if you shop around.

Here in Darwin the 2 solar panel plus charger and cable would set you back $1000, the battery another 350 approx, inverter is cheap and I got the same problem, my aerator on inverter sounds like a pair of shoes in a washing machine. So upgrade would be needed to make sure the hardware lasts. I still have to upgrade to new aerator and water pump but they won't be on solar before I find a proper inverter with true sinus but that will be another 500 bucks down the line.

See what I got for free from Gumtree today...

luckily there was a guy with a bobcat working across the road and gave us a hand with the 2 largest rocks as we were not able to lift them onto the ute. I think I nearly reached the load capacity of the 1-tonner today. ;-)

and NO that is not the grow media for the new big Gbs...
