Also, a lot of credit to TSalt  and her help Espalier training. Many thinks!

Those PM'd pics were invaluable; I knew what to look for at the nursery and have my pears pruned and training properly.

Good Day BYAP :wave1: It has been one heck of a spring. I have finally found a free minute to do my first update of the season.

Main System is in full swing still planted with winter crops. Collards and kale going to seed. More swiss chard than I know what to do with; I think I am going to pickle it kimchi style.

Put a small raft in the tilapia tank for some kang kong. Seems to be doing well. I placed the air diffusers under the raft. Had a serious algal bloom when the water became warm enough for the tilapia and had to cover the majority of the tank. Have noticed lots and lots of fry hiding in the root masses. Hoping I can grow them out to pan fry size before November and the water starts getting to cold. We shall see.

J.B., it seems that your liking for a drink or three hasn't prevented you from developing a very productive AP system - well done. You must 'know' a lot!

PLJ, the garden probably is a result of drinking... Originally started with hops and herbs for home brewing and expanding with no end in sight, into what it is today.

For all others enjoyment. I figured out what to do with the monster chard...

Recipe I used:
1 pound cleaned swiss chard
1 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or more if you like it HOT)
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
2 tablespoons fresh garlic, minced
1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon unrefined toasted sesame oil
Water if necessary to thin paste a bit

Directions:
Slice greens and stalks
Mix up the paste to your spiciness level [We like it HOT]
Combine with greens until well incorporated
Sanitize jars and lids [I used 1 quart jars]
Pack greens mix semi-tightly into jars [1-1.5lb will fit in 1 jar]
Top off with water
Put lids on loosely
Allow 1-2 day at room temp
Tighten lids and place in fridge
Lacto-Ferment for 1-2 weeks

Hey TomKat,

I think I paid about 130 for both liners... had to get the 10'x15' size because of the 16" depth... a lot of waste.

On my raft bed, it is still 4'x8', but I used 2"x12"x8' untreated lumber (cheaper than treated) for the walls. The 7'x10' pond skin liner fit nicely with very little trimming. The 7'x10' runs about 40 bucks and is usually in stock at the Orange or Blue Hardware Store. I had to order the larger ones online. Sometimes a net search will bring them up cheaper or on sale.

Ultimately, the 2"x12" walled bed cost about the same one of the other beds did to build as it required more 1"x6" and 1"x4" corner, base and top moldings to suit my aesthetic need.

Will post some detail pictures of each to highlight the differences this weekend.

Much better prices at http://www.halfoffponds.com for your liners. Plus, shipping is most likely free. I bought my sump tank liner from them for half the cost of the orange or blue box stores AND it was HDPE liner. I'm not impressed with the stiffness of the HDPE liner but at half the mils of EPDM as well as price, I will deal with it. i found that if you let it sit in the sun for a little bit before spreading it in the growbed (or whatever you are lining), then it is a little easier to work with. EPDM is still my favorite when folding the corners and such.

thanks for the recipe :)
We call chard 'Silverbeet' in some part of Australia.
Its a nasty thing for some but I like it - especially with lemon juice and butter.

You could also feed it to chickens.

It is holding up remarkably well. Needs another coat of oil based enamel. No signs of delamination I can find.

How easy or difficult is it to grow Hops, JB? I have a home-brewing son who tells me I should be doing it - growing hops, that is. From what I have read it seems it prefers a cool climate.

Interestingly, although Australia produces a very large annual Hops crop, all the Hops for one of our premier boutique brands, Little Creatures, is imported from Oregon in the USA. :?

M.S.A. - at the moment it is a top-up tank I plumbed into the constant flow annex. I positioned it next to the eave of my garage for a future addition of a rain gutter for catchment.
