Seems like the whole southern half of the country is going through similar problems with a lack of water whilst up in the north they are in flood. Surely there is a message there somewhere. I cant see why if in the early 1900's they managed to put in a 500km pipe to get water from the coast to the goldfields why we cant in this day and age pipe the water down from the north.

We'd probably have to do a 500km detour past the cotton stations that own and control the water rights Troutman.... (well over this side anyway)

Believe there was a plan to lay a pipeline down from the Kimberleys to Perth... don't know what the status is though?? It was a proposal to harvest the Fitzroy River.

The Fitzroy’s catchment area is larger than the state of Victoria; in
flood, the Fitzroy's volume of water is second only to the Amazon.

It has an annual runoff of 8 million megalitres; by comparison, the
Sydney metropolitan area has around 4 million people and uses
one-half million megalitres a year.

I still don't understand why it isn't mandatory to have decent sized tanks.
We(I+W+2 kids(babies@12000gal capacity 17 yo) have managed our water to the point we are self sufficent...(now 40k gal cap)

Some ppl have houses with rooms they don't go into.
Thats crap, and talking of crap they have a few crappers that could be converted to tanks and hold heaps of water.

As mentioned before, storm water runoff in the city could be collected rather than becoming waste water problem.

and our answer.. AP...not only reducing water consumption, food miles, creating healthy ppl and we know what goes into produce...some times pee.

It is tough though the gov is trying to give the ppl what they want... it is the *potty mouth* ppl that don't know what is best for them.
We have to change our 'mind set' to see wealth we already have.
Becoming more community will help..
my rant over

I'm with you on this one C1.

Didn't some major scientific bloke once say"for every action there is an equal and opposite re-action".

I'm still not decided though on the pumping of water from the Fitzroy Delta. Until the so called experts/pollies can come up with some good case studies PROVING that it won't affect the flaura and fauna I think I'll never be able to decide as I'm sure the will be heaps of +'s and -'s

ROZ, the last I seen on the news was a trench was going to be excavated from Fitzroy to Perth, It was going to be lined and have a roof of sorts.
This was explained ages ago though, mabey sept last year?

They say the easiest way to tell some one is a politician is to see them at the sewer plant. Everyone else is gagging and puking. The politician is asking "whats the problem? it smells like the office"

LOL thats a good one Jt

the plan to get the water to perth via a canal had a few major hurdles like the merchison or gasgoyne rivers (not sure which one might be both) which it is near impossible to build a canal through that will withstand the anual flooding

or at least that was what i heard, plus it would be a tough job keeping the water in a canal even witha lid it would evavporate get bugs in it ect, why no just make it a pipe is beyond me

i have no problems if they take water from dams that are already man made as we have already made an impact to the eco system in these palces i dont like the thought of building new dams on untouched rivers

The only problem when they decide to take water from existing irrigation dams to use as drinking water is that they are then closed off for recreational activities like marroning and fishing. Dams like Wellington Dam have almost 100km of shoreline and thus can accomodate plenty of marroners during the season. If thse places are closed off the only places left to Marron will be the SW rivers and I dont think their marron stocks can handle any more pressure than they are already under.
