This thread goes from initial building to theoretical operation to all of a sudden fish dead.

I feel like I missed something.

Is your system partially operational now?

Cool system/ strategies, I am interested due to the similarities between what I have just begun building.

Building is still going on, but if you pay attention you'll understand that it can't be done in a couple of months.

We have a test system running (BYAP style IBC setup) and it is there where 1 fish died during the cold spell we had here in Thailand.

So, what is your point exactly?

My point was to get clarification on your progress.

Thanks for the update.

Not entirely AP, but some fish excrements found their way to the root system of the tree where this one grew on. :)

It's not only the AP we have to take care of, but also a wood and metal workshop and a 50 feet diameter geodesic dome house. All to be ready February 2014....don't know if I should start to laugh or cry about that deadline. :? We are with 3 of us; my fantastic wife, her brother and me (the idiot with the plans and idea's!).

Hi,

Amazing system you are planning. It actually holds most of the plans I have for my future here in Thailand. I would love to have the opportunity one day to visit. We can even speak dutch as I am Flemish.

I am currently building a house 1.5 hours away from U. I am getting ready to fly back to Europe though next week. Too bad i hadn't seen the thread earlier. I am just starting to learn about aquaponics but I will sure follow the thread closely.

When seeing the amount of imported materials on solar etc, I wonder about import duties, which are 400% I believe in Thailand.

Any way, too many questions, theu will have to wait a bit ...

Hopefully we'll talk later...

Don't know where you get the 400% from, but it's plain and utterly B?@>$s&*(/t! The right source is Thai customs and they're very helpful if you ask politely. Up to a certain level I can be of help too.

I always believed that Flemish was the higher level of Dutch, so I hope you can understand my Koeterwaals? :D

Yeah, the 400% definately wasn't the result of months of internet research lol.

The number must have been stuck in my mind as a result of a Thai visa post about a guy trying to get his classic muscle car into Thailand. I remember him saying it would cost him 4 times the value of the car to get it to him, but i don't remember details.

I do remember people saying that importing in Thailand wasn't cheap and that actually started me planning to make my own solar panels with cells brought with me from Europe.

I ll have to re-evaluate that now I have know of an actual live import succes story ;)

Any way, would love to hear an update on your system. I am house building for over 2 years now. There is always some reason why we can't proceed:

Weather
Relgious holiday
Death in the village
Work on the farms ( rice, sugar cane, rubber trees)
etc...

But I am in no hurry. Retired and doing whatever and whenever I ( -> interpret the thai gf) want.

Groetjes...

That deadline is more a kind of dead end...... :D
Crying and laughing, both happened a lot before and after the deadline of February. During the events I managed to screw up my back, right knee and left elbow among other physical minor injuries. So, had to slow down a bit if I want to survive this journey at all.

Last week we installed an above ground swimming pool to help cooling us during these crazy hot days. On Tuesday we got a very unusual storm coming over, which blew away the ring for the pool. It was a bit hilarious how the three of us were sitting on it waiting things to blow over. Next day we got it it up and running though. And oh, how nice it is to have a splash in between works.

The AP side of it all is a bit suffering since most attention goes to getting roofs rain proof and finishing off the powerhouse and workshop. When these two are sufficiently ready for use, we'll start with a couple of other buildings (a kind of gazebo with outdoor kitchen, a shade for the pool) and see if we can find a contractor to do some rendering on the fish tanks and other buildings.

There is a big difference between building in the mind and in real life. The latter takes much more time!

I'll see if I can update with some pictures later this week.

Loving the ideal of the pool that is definitely going on my to do list. Hoping your feeling better now, nothing worse than having something you want to do but can’t due to niggling aches and pains, old age comes to all of us eventually….. :laughing3:
Hope all goes well and you get water tight before this years Rainy Season.. :thumbright:

We showed the local guys how to bend a pipe the easy and cheap way and….they have a taste for it now! All this at temps of around 42 degrees C.

Also, a sneak preview of what these bended pipes are for. It's a dome….but not as you know it!

A video of the pipe bending can be found on my FB page, since I do not use Youtube at the moment.Better view on the building there, too!

How are things in Thailand doing? Have the governmental shifts had an effect on you?

Sure! Because of the curfew the endless nightly torture of horrible Isaan music (Bimbo Beats and Thai Karaoke) has come to a stop. We can now sleep better and have more energy for doing the work on the day. Life in the province pretty much goes on the way as before.

The clear minded observer can easily see what's really going on. Just a case of very small people with overly large ambitions. Always very irritating to be interupted by that. :)

What amazes me is the hotter it gets the more clothes they wear,42c and a jacket hat or balaclava cloves at least one or two shirts long trousers sometimes socks and trainers,my wife has a fundamental fear of the sun, inside the house shorts T shirt,we go out its skinny jeans one or two tops and maybe a small jacket...

DB- very cool pipe building. Since you have so many tubes to bend, would it be easier to make a jig out of wood?
I've seen some hoop houses over here, and that's what they did.
