yeh, floating (or high % floating) is my chice for the simple reason is you can see when you're feeding too much!

i used to feed my indoor fish a mixture, alternating each day, its AMAZING how trained they can get on only one type after months! The'll actually dart around hungry as hell, but won't eat what they're not used to! reminds me, i gotta stop feeding the murray cod beef heart. i tried for a while, but my population of convicts dissapeared! ;) as have the 4 yabbies i put in there :)

for sure, i see them everyday usually the larger ones.

my fish are a bit timid though, i sit and watch, and the biggest and bravest come to the top, then i walk away for 2 minutes to look at the GB and when i come back all the food is gone! LOL

the tandanus look like vacuum cleaners when the come to the top......... :)

I love using floating food. The tilapia jump clear out of the water at feeding time.

Be sure you use an appropriately sized pellet for your catfish, though. ;)

Troutman, I am manging at this point to keep them at around 20. If I have a sunny day, up to 23 or 24, then back down by the next morning. Forecast is for some sunshine over the weekend, so I am monitoring it day by day. Am topping up with hot water, which I hate to do, and am trying to devise a different system to heat the water, but I reckon in the end I will just eat them soon.

Eat them!!! Your going to have to freeze a heap of them arnt you?? As havnet you got 200 odd!! Perhaps you could put on a huge Barbeque for all the Backyard Aquaponcs members!

Thats the problem with growing fish in a climate that they are not suited to I guess. I experience similar things here with the trout in summer. I can keep them alive but they dont put on any weight until the cooler weather comes again.

Will that include plane fare and lodging? What are the dates? Wouldn't that be a sight 600 some odd folks at an AP BQ.
Seriously though can't you keep them alive through the season?

beuatiful barra weather we are having. I reckon I am about the only person in Adelaide hoping it will continue LOL

Current temps 26.5 at end of day, 23 or 24 in mornings. Feeding well, fish looking really healthy bar a couple of runty stragglers. Definate plans to start eating them soon, but while the weather continues like this, they have a reprieve!

we were just having a real good look at them under lights :)

The size difference is amazing. Some at least 3 times longer and no doubt 5 times heavier than others.

3 distinct size groups- large, medium, runts.
the large have got it coming to them in the next coupla weeks. The mediums, well they can hangin there, the smalls will be making their way inside to reside for winter in prep for grow out over next summer.
