Fish emulsion is NOT fish waste, it is actually parts of dead fish ground up and turned into fertilizer so you want to make sure not to overload your system with fish emulsion products. Most fish emulsion tends to be pretty stinky too.

Cool thanks TC.

I skimmed off a stack of duckweed, dried it to kill it, and filled a PVC tube full of holes (my cheese press) and buried it an inch deep in the media.

The worms already love it.

It feeds the worms and now there's less duckweed to eat all the nutrients.

The day after tomorrow I have to drive to Philip island to see what's there.

Is there anything between Adelaide and there that I should look at?

I recommend that you spend a healthy percentage of the time looking at the road, Bully. We would hate to lose you.

Mrs Bullwinkle will be doing all the driving.

My medication makes the world keep spinning in an annoying fashion that makes all the food fall out of me, and would make driving only about crashing.

But I'll pass on the suggestion to Mrs Bullwinkle. :)

are you going via the Great Ocean Road, very scenic.

otherwise there is the Grampians.

I believe there could be a few wineries around too,
beware, if overindulging your wife may end up sharing your condition?

My kids were disappointed when we bypassed the giant earthworm between Melb and PI.

You missed the superbikes in Feb (best bike races ever, well it was good back in 92 when I last went), Only a few months til MotoGP (Oct). Can you wait that long?

+1 for the GOR. Go all the way along the coast including Portland and come back via Grampians.

We went to the Grampians last Christmas.

This time we stopped in at Hawsham, but only for an overnight.

Now we are on Philip island looking out at Kangaroos milling around our cabin.

This staying in a cabin thing is a first for me. Not so much sitting around the fire but a bit more "do you want ice in that gin and tonic". interesting.

I think I might have just gotten old.

I think we'll do the great ocean road on the way home.

I have an older brother and his marvelous family that live in Geelong, so I think we'll hug the coast on the way home and see if we can bump into some of my half brother's mums in law travelling in the other direction who are currently visiting us where we normally live when we aren't here.

I think.

Penguins are a totally worthwhile, and generally entertaining species.

Be nice to one if you ever meet.

Or send them money.

Penguins need money*.

*Actually the ones we met dont, but others all over the world do, so send it them them.

I got home and didn't die.

Neither did my system while I was away.

But I think the time lapse of my duckweed growing has probably captured nothing but the rain overflowing my duckweed onto the ground. There seems less of it then there was when I left and the dirt looks greener than it should.

Helicopter flights are way cool.

Well my composter seems popular.

I lifted my new, (directly in the growbed) composter when I got home, and found lots of big fat happy worms in it, and a stack more miserable ones on the surface under the composter queuing to get in.

My even bigger, fatter silver perch enjoys the new arrangement as well.

Also, it seems dry (presumed dead) duckweed comes back to life again if you go to Philip Island for a few days if the leaves on the bottom of the composter are anything to go by.

Oops!

I thought I responded to this when you posted it, but perhaps I was distracted by it :)

For years, my all time favourite site* on the net has been zombo.com, and I was very pleased to see it was the last one before the list of sites repeated. I'm guessing that means it was the first one added, and thus the inspiration for the entire site.

A totally worthwhile endeavour all round. Thanks for sharing :)

*my real all time favourite site is of course BYAP
