Yeah and they've done a good job of turning it into a "us against them" between Democrats and Republicans whereas 99% of what they fight about aren't the real issues that would improve people's lives.

True that. Most of the things they squabble about have no real effect on out lives, and the various platforms are jokes. I know many people that won't vote democrat because of the abortion issue. An issue that really means nothing because no one will successfully outlaw it here. I believe it stems from the Southern White Churches who refused to vote democratic after the civil rights bill was signed in. They found an issue that they could go to battle on without looking racist. Then there is gun control. A big deal is made about that too. Our right to bear arms is protected in our Bill of Rights. That is not going to change. More lives would be saved outlawing swimming pools than gun control. Perhaps we should do things like rethink our war on drugs. Gun violence caused by the distributors of illicit drugs is a problem, but controlling guns won't stop them from getting guns, their resources are tremendous. It is not like they are going to say, "Oh no this gun was acquired outside of legal means, I should not use it." Rather "Great this gun is untraceable, I think I am going to shoot that guy who is encroaching in my franchise territory." With all the issue misdirection, we are oblivious to how and where our tax dollars are spent.

You could have two takes on that, probably more. :)
The Asp (a snake)
The Ass p!! that was a spit.

Back to cycling; lets face it its something you do as a child, very good for balance etc If you need to get to work and you can't afford any thing else fine.
A bunch of *sigh* in their Lycra suits and over $1k bikes swanning around on the weekend, and thinking they are doing the planet a favour, I don't think so.
As a sport; Hello wake up, big business and apparently fixed and pumped up (and about as boring as golf).
Only imho of course. :)

I like cycling...... :)

You might see me in some plain lycra shorts, but never the whole get up.. And hey $1000 is bugger all to spend on a bike. The main reason I like cycling now is because my bike has an electric wheel... :)

Hi Dave, I will take you cycling with me in your normal gear anytime. We can do some mileage, ride three or four times and when you start to scream from the sores between your thighs touching every time you put one foot in front of the other I will invite you for another ride and offer you some lycra. I wonder if you will accept?

It's for chafing you dunce. :D
And it works, and if you prefer to ride lycra-free then go for it but I must say it does seem like a bit of an obsession on your part. Maybe he doth protest too much?

Why should you be allowed on the roads? What gives you more rights than others?

Cyclists over here are mostly irresponsible arseholes Martin, too many of them flout the road rules because they dont need number plates, etc. and then if you have a go at them they quite often catch you at the next lights and abuse you/ your car.

I have ridden on the roads and I tell you that it gets to that point after lots of abuse from car drivers.

A while back I was walking our girls in their pram while my wife was riding nearby with my son. It was a REALLY quiet road. Nobody around. I saw a car come past and in the distance as they passed my wife and son who were on the left as they should be, the car slowed and they shouted out the window. When I reached them she was very upset the guys in the car had shouted at them to "F**k off off the road." And some other abuse too. Why should car drivers be allowed on the road?

I know this is not in Australia but I would bet it's the same thing.

I have no problem with cyclists except when they ride two abreast on busy roads, in my opinion this is just pure arrogance, bicyclists do have rights but common sense goes a long way to avoiding angry drivers. I have often seen groups of cyclists riding two abreast on heavy traffic roads when on the other side of the road is purpose built bike paths, if that isn't arrogance I don't know what is.

I agree with you but if I had to start listing the transgressions I see from drivers this server would run out of hard drive space so I don't really see the point of this argument, it does seem that both groups need to chill out a little. I have never nearly been killed by a cyclist but I have nearly been killed by other drivers more times than I can count.

See if you persist enough you can get the thread back on track.

Honestly if its for chafing I'd rather not bother; never used to get chafed when I was a kid riding a bike (fixed gear not Disraeli) and I'm not sure I would like to now. :)
It was a nice offer anyway but I work weekends. if you like I can lend you some hi vis gear and safety boots and you can come down and volunteer for a day. I pull plenty of bikes out of the tip we could probably get you a nice one.
