Yeah all too true. South Africa and Mexico are bad but you should hear the stories that my dad has from Iraq, Somalia and Afghanistan.

And when you say elsewhere America isn't doing so great either with its elected officials. In a true democracy you get the representatives that you (collectively) deserve .

Thats not true stuart, in no way does this country deserve the liberals or labour.

Yeah, Nigeria is now a "bigger economy" but they have 170 million people where we have around 50million so as the article states: "On a per-capita basis, South Africa's GDP numbers are three times larger than Nigeria's." I don't really feel the need to compete as such but it does show the strength of our economy despite the terrible management of the government.

Regards, Martin.

Well Mazza doesn't work (cos its a girls name, even though you seem to have some cross dressing tendencies)
Marto sounds like like a garden fruit.
Marty hmm bit back to the futurist.
Suspect you will end up with a nickname; try to make it a good one.

You might not, I might not but we as a nation voted them in so we as a collective got what we asked for.

I'm not happy about it but it is what it is. :upset:

I thought I look at the growth but this data doesn't have the latest figures even so it doesn't show any serious difference both economies look to be improving.

http://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.PCAP.CD/countries/NG-ZA?display=graph

Which is great for them.

Then I though I'd look at them in comparison to Australia:

Even coming from a low base and even considering Australia has been going through a relative purple patch it doesn't look good.

Yea i see your point, i just dont believe in the mantra that politicians are "elected to represent us". There is very rarely a single value that i have in common with most politicians i am able to vote for, and the ones who i do agree with sometimes, usually i dont agree with any of thier other values.

Has anyone here had a look at other up and coming partys, I've mentioned these guys before and have had a look at their website..The Australian Sovereignty Party. Of course I don't know if they would live up to their promises but what I've read on their site is very much inline with how I think, (on the rare occasions that I think)

the problem with other parties is that only the top 2 have a chance to get in, they can be pushed out at some point im sure, but it pretty much requires one of them to implode.
i usually vote for the greens even though they are becoming like the others just to garner votes, they are the only ones right now that have a chance of becoming part of the "two party system".

The more people vote for smaller parties the more varied the Senate becomes the harder it is for the top 2 to shaft us as much as they'd like, and small parties can definitely grow over time. Don't forget, if the Senate is full of Libs or full of Labour then they will answer to no-one.
That's how I see it anyway, but I'm not that learned. :dontknow:

Over here it is similar - the ruling party has too much power and many people are desperately hoping that the majority comes down so that they are forced to start taking others into consideration during their decision making process.

Over here the two major parties have such strong fundraising power, that the only people that can afford to run outside of those two parties are millionaires that spend their own money. Sure you see other names on ballots, but they are hardly known, and voting for them just takes votes away from one of the two parties. In a three party election, the two candidates with the closest platform will lose.
