Hi all. I've been stalking this website for a couple of months now since I stumbled upon the aquaponics scene. I have gathered all my research and set up an IBC system exactly the way this site has shown. I followed using fingerling of choice method to cycle system (Rainbow Trout). Bed is planted, clay balls media and 1000litre IBC conversion. Things have been going well but a bit concerned about nitrite spike. It's shot right up! Did a 30% water change, added salt, cap full of seaweed extract and 2 air stones running with CF. Is there anything else I can do or do I just sit and wait for nitrite to drop. A bit worried if the fish are going to make it through this period. Can I say great website and members here. Thoroughly enjoyed reading and seeing members systems. :wave1:

Hiya Taktizer welcome to the forum.
It seems to me that you have done your research and have done all you can to carry your fish through the nitrite spike, all that is left to do is sit on your hands and watch the nitrogen cycle unfold.
How many fish have you in the system?

Hi skeggley. I have 12 fish in the system. Not feeding them at the moment until nitrite drops. Ammonia almost zero and nitrates nominal. Thanks for the welcome and response. Cheers!

Good work, slow and steady wins IMO
.
Get a members system thread started and post some pics for reference later on when you are well and truly addicted and building the expansion that's bound to happen.
