Congrats on the babies S77. Where did you get your big marron from? Are 4 in a 55L tank happy enough?

Simmo, your thread pics and explanations have been a real help to me, thank you. I read Joel's book, look at pics, read again, until it sinks in. Thanx once again.

TimC - I got them from Golden Ponds in Baldivis for $35 per kilo, all bigger than legal size. I wasn't able to find anyone who had juveniles available to sell, but that might have just been due to the time of year.

Tragic, you're welcome! :)

I think my system was probably overstocked and I saw problems like temno and fighting as a result.

Total water volume is over 800L with 600L of growbeds, and my ammonia and nitrite levels were always very low so the growbeds (bacteria) were doing their job well enough. I have an electromagnetic air pump supplying an airstone in each tank 24/7, but I think that in the warmer weather the DO levels were still getting too low for the Marron.

I know that Marron are notorious for being escape artists, but with so many perishing because they escaped and dried out in the garden I have to wonder if they were trying to find a home with less neighbors, or better water quality etc, or whether Marron are just adventurous by nature?

As of today, this system is no more. The marron and growbeds have been moved to their new home (my system IV), the tanks are awaiting their new inhabitants (yabbies, from system III).

All in all this system was very reliable and functional, but was hampered by lack of sunlight which inhibited growth in the beds. It was probably also a little small for the number of large marron that I had in there initially. I think the 11 frogs that I disturbed while breaking down the system are the most dissapointed to see it gone.
