Especially little silver perch!!

We are gearing up for the change over....considering growing up some silver perch fingerlings in the FT to then add to the swimming pool with the others, rather than barra. Not sure with the cool start to spring that barra fingerlings would grow out in time..

The warmer weather has really triggered some feeding with the silver perch in the pool now….turned off the pump for a few minutes to take a clearer photo- you can even see the new fingerlings just added! We are looking forward to a bit of fishing coming up :D

The yabbies are breeding like mad now too- we put two berried females into the indoor aquarium and today they are releasing their young. It is amazing to see it! The photo is a bit blurry because of the movement to release the young, but you can just see several babies in the foreground. Took a movie but not sure how to reduce it for including here…..

The warmer weather does mean the end of the trout in the FT is nigh, it was 23.4C in there yesterday afternoon and they were feeling a bit sorry for themselves. :( Will miss the trout!

Thanks Charlie…that particular yabbie was struggling to keep its equilibrium this morning (dept rolling over) and now it has died :( Do you know if that is common or unrelated. It still has eggs unfortunately. The other one in the tank is fine, and both look good (not damaged from fighting that we can see).

Sounds a little odd, is there anything that may be different between the inside aquarium and the outside tank they came from? PH etc?

Great!! Good luck with it, we have really enjoyed it :thumbright: In fact today we caught about 10 silver perch from the swimming pool (with a hand line and raw prawns :headbang: ) to go in the AP fish tank. We decided not to go for barramundi this summer in the AP, but to grow some silver perch which we will put back in the pool when we get trout for winter.

Let us know how you go!

Hi Rod
Thanks!
Here is the link we followed (basically) to set up our bathtub worm farm

It is still going really well! Reading about others' experiences with worm farms, one of the most important issues to be aware of is the heat of summer. Ours is in the shade and we always have several layers of newspaper or cardboard on top……..we haven't had the losses that some have if the worm farm is exposed to the sun.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

I know….we learnt so much from the forum before we started and then continue to do so!

Re the fibreglass bath- don't know….I don't see why not as people use fridges and all sorts. Maybe someone here or on the BYF forum may have some experience?

Okay….. so we usually only post at the change over of fish……well, it is that time again!!

The silver perch we had put in the FT have grown well, after a slowish start, as have the veggies. We caught 28 silver perch of edible size (biggest was 912 grams, some were plate size) for the freezer and about another dozen that we put back into the swimming pool to grow some more.

…….and then………the very next day…………TROUT TIME!!!

It has worked really well to have perch rather than barra over summer, so we will most likely do that again next season. There was no worries about the water temperatures (with have been well under 20 the last couple of weeks) and they taste just as good!
