Will you be putting any type of lid/cover on your fish tank? your water level is close to the top and fish can jump. You have built a really neat system, I'm a little envious. :thumbleft:

I do have a cover over fish tank ,a net would be a good idea .

Hi, as yet I do not have plants in system have installed water heater ,that gives me a reading of 65F to encourage bacterial growth .I used 50 litres of media from the old system which is about eighteen months old ,the Nitrosamines bacteria shows a red 4.0mg1 ,I am not sure what that is telling me ,waiting for test kit to check ammonia levels, The ammonia is the homemade stuff percolated for about a fortnight last reading showed .5 P M ,so with the appearance of bacteria ,presumably I am on track? pH 7.8 seem ok. I have added no more ammonia ,waiting till test kit arrives ,then cut down the amount by half ? How are you doing with your barrel system ,have you made any new system ,or planning to ?. :support:
