I have 2 system . One with fish and the other without fish . So I thought ,to keep the 2nd system running , I can add the solid waste from the first system to the 2nd .So I added these waste .
And then I went further . I started to add bread that left over .
My question , is this ok , will my basil and okra be suitable to be eaten .

You're getting away from my experience there. I would not hesitate to let bread compost in garden soil but it may cause problems in aquaponics.

Hi Gene . You know I am thinking that this is also sort of composting , the water turned turbid at the beginning then it turned clear after 1or 2 days .What do you think ?!

Hi blind freddie , thank you for joining us in this discussion .Actually I cant join the 2 system together , one reason is technical , the other is that the no. of fish is few .
But what is your opinion in the concept .

Why would you want to put leftover bread in the system? I can think of a few really good meals that use stale but not fungus infected bread.
Take a multivitamin tablet (it will possibly do you some good) and (let me put this politely) put some of your urine in the system. Check out a thread that only uses this with a few other additives. :)

There are a number of people that integrate worm farms into AP systems and compost all sorts of organic matter as part of their systems.

Unfortunately they are not members here and their methods are not listed publicly on the internet that I know of.

Katib, in answer to your question - I don't think transferring the solids will be enough since you don't have enough fish to feed the two systems if they were connected. The bread probably won't add enough additional nutrients. Adding fish food would work, the urine idea would work, using blood and bone meal would probably work and there are other possibilities.

Cheers

Yes but I hope you also understand that we don't know much about how such a system would be designed or operated :dontknow:

Hi Sleepe . Actually I use leftover bread because it is kind of available . I am thinking of using other types of leftover food .Urine!!!! I cant think of applying this even if it is ok from the science point of veiw because there are other more appropraite options .I am sure you agree with me :D .

Hi Stuart .
Actually my system is working moderatly well so far , the basil and okra are doing well although the basil is doing better .I may need to be more informed about the concept of growing and( eating ) vegetables using such system. I hope somebody would share us his or her knowledge in this respect .
Best

Hi scotty .I thought that transferring solid waste would be good for both systems so I can feed my fish more food .I will consider adding other types of leftover food ,but not urine , no sir , thanks. :naughty:
