By no means monsters, 10cm to 15 cms maybe. barra smaller than EB's BBQ one for $45 (and didn't even have any chillies with it :))

I think the OZ natives are more of a specialty item. BTW i spotted some of Ausyfish's shipping boxes there ;) They have an 8 foot tank with about 50 rainbows in there...........beatutiful. Its the only place i've found in melb that offers a full range of natives. They are reallly good on hardware and food prices too. Food can be upto 1/2 price of other places.

the most expensive native I have found to date in Cairns were Barra fingerlings, and they wanted $4 each... not toooo dear, unless you want 20 or more that is!

I now have no goldfish left in the grey tank. I sure hope they have all mutinied to the black tank - otherwise there are some fat bastard birds flying around my joint.

I bet ya they have travelled through the pipe. We had an above ground pool once and filled it with guppies- they used to always hide down the water pump outlet pipe, when you banged on the side they would come flying out. They grew really fast and then all died in one night when it got really cold. Spewingthere were some massive ones in there, beautiful tails, maybe 2 or 3 hundred all up.

Any way hope you find the elusive little beggars!

Will find out on the weekend by moving the duckweed out temporarilly. Any progress on the greenhouse Stu - or do you need to wait till the weekend? I would love to be out finishing my grow-bed stand, cause I am often not home from work this early. Only problem is it is too bloody cold and I need to do a water change on my aquarium anyway, the silvers were not looking too well this morning. Haven't looked tonight, so I hope they are not dead  . Better get out there now.

My goldies are hiding in the structure I originally put in for the yabby - For a day or so I thought that almost all of them had died till I spied one dart from one pipe to another... after removing the pipes all 8 were accounted for.... hope yours turn up okay as well.

Dunno about the goldies, but 2 of my 6 perch are now dead, including biggest one, and 1 more looking pretty sick. There have been signs for a couple of days that a water change was required, but I have been so caught up doing long work hours that I just didn't do it. I have done it now, but it was too late.

Another lesson learnt :( .

filtration is a valid point but do you have the silvers in the big troughs outside or ar they inside in an aquarium. I have thirty silver perch at about 4-6cm long in a 500 litre tub and swear it could go for a very long time without a water change.

sorry to hear about the fish none the less :( :( :(

I have a big cannister filter. I am used to having a small number of fish in the tank that do not eat a lot of food and therefore do not create large amount of waste. Need to pull my finger out and do regular water changes if I want to start my fish off in such a small tank while waiting for weather to warm up a bit. I bought some expanded clay balls and have been meaning to set up a small grow bed on top of the fish tank to supply extra bacteria and to have the plants take out the nitrates, but haven't got around to it yet. Must pull finger out, particularly as I intend to buy some jades and more silvers this weekend.

Are you just waiting to build your stand to get Muzza's grow bed up and running?
