I think this chart is very useful.

As you can see the lower you pH and the lower your temp the less toxic the ammonia is to the fish. So check your pH and bring it down if necessary to make the ammonia spikes you endure during cycling safer for this fish.

Regards, Martin.

Didn't get my water tested last night. School science project took center stage. Plants are however looking good. I'm happy with the science project you can see a huge difference between the plant in the soil and the rest in the system. The one in the soil has burnt leaves and it's no where near as green as those in the system. Very good comparison for someone starting off with a new system.

Filled GB4 with 5 wheel barrow loads washed and moved and loaded in just over two hours. Was movin extra efficiently to beat the darkness. It could stand to have a few more shovels worth but it will have to wait.

Hey Binky, I must have missed that fish feeding question. I looked for recent comments in this thread but did not see it. Please point me to it and I will help if I can.

Regards, Martin.

I tossed some lettuce in GB2 about a week or so ago. Fast germination I have half a dozen lettuce plants coming up. SWEET!

Hi Binky, sorry about the driveway! That darned weather, should be banned. Hopefully it gets sorted and you're back onto the AP bandwagon without too much of a break.

If you look under permaculture and dams/ponds and swales on the net there is a lot of information about how you can control water flow to stop erosion like this from happening. Once you get some preventative landscaping in place it probably won't happen again.

Regards, Martin.

Ouch. Your soil just looks like sand.

How you going to stop that getting worse?
