Good times. What is karva? I googled it but only came up with a Hindu Holy day which I doubt is applicable.

The root of a tree, maybe spelt wrong. The islanders grind it up and mix with water. Tastes like mud and numbs your mouth, maybe your brain? Having not consumed it I'm not sure of the full effects of it on you.
A quick search reveals

"Kava is a drug made from the ground roots of the plant Piper methysticum, a member of the
pepper family that also includes black pepper. Kava is consumed as a drink or supplement. The
crushed, ground or powdered root is added to water and drunk like tea.
Kava is drunk at various social and ceremonial occasions throughout most of the Pacific Islands and
used in some countries as a medicinal herb."

Bet that sends the IT alarms off!

Lol. Thanks Doc, I was searching for Karva. It sounds pretty potent. Local concoctions always seem to have an edge you don't get in the mass market, which I'm sure is a good thing. :D

Yay,

My first harvest. The lads have been pestering me for a few weeks now, maybe even months, so we did the deed yesterday. Caught the two biggest ones, was pretty easy with the net. Got a couple of small ones, but they went back in the water no worries.

450gms and 400gms clean, both about 30cm long. Was a little bit short of enough for 5 but, I will let the rest grow another year.

Cooked in foil with garlic and ginger, spanish onion and a few slices of lemon.

I was reasonably carefull to avoid any of the fatty top and bottom of each side, as I was keen for everybody to have a positive experience to enable me to continue the AP hobby.

All went down the hatch. No hint of mud or crap, just a nice white flesh. Great knowing they had only been caught 1/2 hour before going on the bbq.

Had wanted to serve up with AP bok choy and broch, but the buggers had gone to seed.

Dog loved the guts and head.

Was impressed how clean they were and relativly low fat content in their stomach. I guess alot of that is my slow feed rate. I have only used 7kgs of food in the 2 1/2 years they have been in.

Left my phone at home, so will put up photos tomorrow.

I know, the boys helped catch, but couldn't watch me kill them.

Whilst feeding the fish last night, I realised these weren't the biggest fish, There was one smart bugger who hid in the corner. He will be so much bigger next summer.

Lol. I meant you're cruel for torturing me with the pics of tasty looking fish, not for killing them. :D

Thanks Martin,

We have also recently enjoyed the spoils of AP cucumbers. Great in salads, and boys been putting them in their lunches.

They love eating the baby cues instead of fruit at school, but I don't often find them as my cucumber bush is growing through the tomato bush.

Young boys have crunch and sip, where they are meant to eat healthy stuff that doesn't drip

Spent a few days in Sunny Melbourne last week. It was sunny but freezing.

Made it back for the wifes birthday on Saturday and followed it up with Mothers day on Sunday.

The fish are hitting the pellets again. I think they were missing their leaders after we ate them the other week, but have now decided its time to feed..

Vegies are growing well. Found a lettuce tree hiding in the tomatoes. Brochilli doing the same thing. Should see a head soon, surely.

Capsicum have come out. When do you pick them. They are nice and shiny and green. Do they change colour as they get older?

Tomatoes are ripening, even in the colder weather. A bit on the mushy side, but flavour is okay. Will make a good sauce if ther is more of them.

When do you pull ginger. Heaps of green shoots still.
