do the protein foods that fish eat produce more ammonia? Are some foods better than others for producing plant growth?

Woah! Now you're asking the hard questions!

I have seen data from ridley on outputs from their feed (nitrogen phosphorus etc) will try and dig up the PDF!

Hi Forest,

The higher the protein level of the fish food, the more ammonia it will generate.

Wow, Gary! How do you know that?!?! My tilapia need low protein--I guess that's both good and bad.

Hi Janet,

Quote:
.....the amount of nitrogen— an element that combines with hydrogen to form ammonia (NH3)— increases when high protein rations are fed to hogs. (Remember that protein is made up of mostly nitrogen along with carbon hydrogen, oxygen and sometimes sulfur.) Excess protein isn’t utilized and is excreted with the manure and urine. When bacteria start to break down the excreted protein into its component parts, the nitrogen is released and recombines with hydrogen to form ammonia.....

Take a look at http://www.ca.uky.edu/agc/magazine/2002 ... s/take.htm if you want to read the full text of the article.

For information on fish, see the section on "Ammonia Sources" at http://www.ca.uky.edu/wkrec/ManagingAmmonia.pdf

I've seen pigs swim! I remember seeing a pig get 1/2way across a river before becoming croc fodder. Like Magic it just "dissappeared".
