I've hit around on a few threads that I was starting up my first aquaponic system. Well it's now official in this thread lol.

I have a twenty gallon fish tank. My grow bed will be the bottom part of what use to be my ferrets cage, it's about 3ft x 1.5ft and about 7 inches deep. My sump tank will be a storage container, I'm gonna guess that it can hold about twenty gallon also.

Right now that's all I have. Tomorrow I plan on getting some fish, a pump, and hopefully some piping. I'm anxious to get it up and running but at the same time I have to be patient with the money. I'm taking little baby steps with this project. My goal this weekend is to get the plumbing installed. It looks easy but I've never dealt with any kind of plumbing before so I'm expecting some problems but that's the whole reason why I'm wanting to do a small scale aquaponic system.... to understand the hardware that makes it up. Then maybe next year go big with a ibc. Thanks.

you probably want to get the system set up and water flowing before adding the fish

I tried to upload some pictures earlier but I do all of my internet browsing on my cell phone. I believe I kept getting a message saying that the photo was to big. I went to my camera settings and made my photo images smaller but it still wouldn't load.

You say wait on the fish.....Ok. It does make sense to wait. Thanks.

I ended up buying the pump today at Wal-Mart. It is a Regent brand and pumps 153gph and it has a venturi design.

I also bought six feeder gold fish...... I wouldn't have bought any but the look on my two year olds face was to adorable when she seen the fish. I figured $1.50 for six "nemos" lol isn't that bad.

I have the pump in the tank and is really pumping out some water. I guess tomorrow I will study the pump and come up with the plumping plan.
