Hello everyone,
I'm in the beginning stages of aquaponics. I've been researching for almost two years now and decided it's time to get the ball a-rolling.

With my first build I'm going to run a small scale setup. I will be using a 20gal tank and and 2ft x 3ft plastic container as my grow bed. I plan on planting herbs. I want the best smelling herbs and have my apartment smelling like paradise lol. I've seen people talk about how good the chocolate mint plant smells.

Anyone have certain herb pants that they can't resist but to smell every time you walk by it?

I can't go past Pineapple Sage, along with your everyday kitchen herbs like sweet basil, rosemary, thyme, common mint and so on. There are some like the curry plant which are really fragrant, but not something I'd want stinking my house out all the time, lol.

If I had to pick one, purely because it's less common and really does smell pineappley and nice, I'd go the pineapple sage. It, like most Salvia's are really easy to grow and propagate, and it has nice red flowers too. I like surprising people with it, crushing a leaf and sticking it under their noses, they can't get enough of it either, lol.

Basil is one of the best for me, and I cook wit it a lot, and use it in my salads too.

I'd guess sorcery. Only way I could think of controlling it.

I may be weird, but I love the smell of tomatoes & basil. Lemon thyme/peppermint thyme are quite nice too.

Not weird, tomatoes and basil are a match made in heaven!

There is nothing like dipping crusty bread into the leftovers of a tomato and basil salad dressed in balsamic and fresh olive oil, om nom nom!

I had mint in a pot in a pot in the growbed so I could take it out and trim the roots - worked ok, though if you don't regularly trim the runners they will get into the main GB and take over. I now have it in its own basket in the fish tank water so it can't take over any other growbed along with some laksa and lemon grass.

If you want to see how bad mint can get take a look at my indoor system. The mint flowered and died off, but now I have 30-50 little new shoots sprouting up through the hydroton. The bottom half of the grow bed is just the roots ti the mint. Afraid to pull out of it helping with the filtration.
