well I am testing out Unix Ubuntu on a new hardrive.....

so far I LIKE it......

so many free os packets and programs.... and fast.....

my win XP on 4 megs was sluggish and prone to crashing alot... Ubuntu can have 20 progams open
and speed right along....

over 47,000 virus' for MS and only around 50 for Unix and most of them have been terminated by
the upgrade of the Unix kernal...

I just have to study Wine patch so I can run a couple win only programs that I need.....

so far so good

JT

Wine is 'OK' for the simple programs but wouldn't run something like Solidworks. But interestingly enough, Draftsight (from solid works) actually runs a higher level than on Windows!!

And as you have experienced, a lot faster. Check out Lubuntu for an even more rewarding Linux experience. Been using it for quite awhile and prefer it to Ubuntu.

JT,
you might look into VirtualBox from Oracle. It's free (as in beer) software that allows you to run a windows machine virtually on your linux box (or vice versa). Its not really a good fit for CAD or other processor intensive tasks but its great for that little piece of software you need. Plus, Virtualbox has pretty good hardware support for USB, Serial, parallel ,etc...

PM me if i can help

Good looking beds JT. I have some deficiencies to work out in mine. When they are as seasoned, will look as nice, I hope.
