Is that a Copper or Brass tee piece at the intersection of those two black pipes? I've read that those metals can be bad news for fish. PVC or Stainless Steel would be a safer option. Your whole system is making me envious, can't wait to see it up and running. :)

The metal part of pump the connectors is out of the water ,when in use ,not in sub tank ,thanks for your advice ,concerning the pipe from fish tank I shall in stall 40mm pipe to relieve pressure ,also to feed extra water for the pump during the cycling .

You don't want AP water running through brass or copper either. A cheap plastic fitting will be better.

Asking a question how long can it for the ammonia to kick in using urine once you have degassed the water system ?.I was wondering would it be a good idea when the ammonia produces nitrites to use seaweed plant food , once you have nitrates ,they say the water goes black ,plant up wait a fortnight then add fish, has anybody tried this combination?

if the urine is "fresh" it will take several days before it converts to ammonia.. if you age it for a couple weeks, you'll have immediate ammonia readings

Reference To day the system is up and running, so it is a question of cycling the system ,first thing to do is to degas the system .buy a test kit to study levels ammonia etc. I built a filter ,the idea from Rob Bob it works well ,not only dose it filter also gives extra water needed for pump. It has taken some time to find the right adjustments ,it came right when I adjusted the tap on the water filter just need to fill the second grow bed with hydroton stones ,then correct the sub tank levels. Firs t pic water creating oxygen ,just filter

This is the fish surround painted blue ,the blue colour gives a good reflective light ,especially around dusk. It reflects well into the greenhouse, it is coincidental but very effective.

Great to see you up and running :thumbright: You can put seedlings in straight away if you like while the system is cycling, just add a source of nutrients like Maxicrop or Charlie Carp to help feed the seedlings. :)

It still takes a while for aged urine to fully convert to ammonia.

Hi. thank you for helping me . I have a smaller 300 litre system already running ,and plan to use the hydroton stones out of that ,also the fish water ,-how much advantage would that be in terms of recycling ,could I use two grow beds simultaneously to recycle ?,where it is usually one grow bed at a time .The smaller 300 litre system ,there is something wrong with the syphon ,I bought this system last year ,I plan to leave extend the stand pipe this will make an emergency over flow pipe ,then install a new syphon ,project later on in the year. Point of interest this the system I bought last year it came with hydroton stones
