Season 8 and 9 of SG-1 was a bit of a let down, i think its come good again for season ten first ep wasn't too bad. Nothing like the first 6 seasons though.

Stuck watching lost? what about 4400 and battle star?

I hear ya on the firefly space above and beyond is a good one to watch if you haven't already, it was release around the "sliders" time. Very character driven. Only one season though.
