I was a stay-at-home mum for 17 years.

I gardened, seed collected & grew native trees, taught myself leadlighting, solar efficient house design & mud brick house building.

Midlife crisis 11 years ago, saw me enrol at uni & I became a teacher. I now have a class of 5 & 6 year olds.

Mother of 4, Grandma of 2. We offer a retirement home for a few chooks & a very old goose, & a safe haven for many kangaroos & wildlife.

AP is my only hobby - am always too busy supporting kids & hubby with their motorcycle racing obsessions!

I am a retired Engineer, last job was the manufacture of HGV lorries fuel injectors, working to Micron and some time sub micron tolerances,American company based in the uk,they actually invented the system to machine these parts that accurately. Output was 900 a shift on a three shift bases, the main diameter on the injector pin was 5.998 mm + or - .0002,no seals metal to metal contact throughout, first time pass rate was 99.8%. Absolutely fantastic job,but i reckon working to those tolerances was easier than growing tomatoes in AP.. :laughing3:

A film lighting technician (Gaffer) freelancing on films in Australia and SE Asia for 32 years, started out building sets and then got into lighting.

Retired and enjoying the easy life.

Ron if I remember correctly the name Gaffer Tape came from an American gaffer who used it for holding his lights on cars for traveling shots in the early 70's.

He went onto design lightweight lighting that could be taped to anything, walls, cars, planes etc. His lights were sold with a roll of tape and the name Gaffer Tape took off.

It was just duct tape back then but later it was made more suitable for the film industry and still had the same adhesion, I've used it on helicopters and light aircraft and it's never failed.

Here in the 70's Gaffer Tape was taxed at a higher rate than Camera Tape yet they were exactly the same thing, so I always bought Camera Tape.

My wife thought the same thing when we got together. She soon discovered that when I cook all day, I don't feel much like cooking when I get home. Although, truth be told, I've raised her standards a bit too much. She used to be happy with anything, now if the seasoning is off, she grumbles.

that is a pretty big pond you are building there for the fish and your Aquaponics system.

Cheers

btw... I work in a wastewater treatment plant and on sewage pump stations. I reckon we should use the nutrients out of our sewage ponds for a big Hydroponics setup and grow something useful like bamboo or whatever grows here to extract oil out. ;-)

It wasn't that long ago that we actually did in Sydney. It's a pitty it wasn't managed a bit better...

:laughing3: I intorduced my wife to a whole stack of food that she wasn't familiar with. Now she has taken over the kitchen and I haven't cooked more than twice a year in ages.

I'm currently a final (I hope) year uni student doing a BSC with majors in Sustainable Resource Management and Marine Science. I hope to find my way into the aquaculture industry ATM, but my vision usually hanged each semester so I will probably see why comes.
Prior to this I worked as a chef at some big resorts around qld before realising I hated it (the job side, not good or cooking) and when back to school. Before that I did a diploma in IT which I never pursued.
Other non-formal skills and interests include all-grain beer brewing (as well as other ferments), aquariums, bonsai, PC gamer, maintenance gardener and scientific literature miner (handy for my current occupation)

I also have other ferments skills.

I guess I should add that to my personal skills.

That's an interesting point you have there Charlie.

I would enjoy exploring your point of view further.

Perhaps every few months or so ? :)
