correctly, doesn't need to worry about a thing here, welcome SS

So you found out about solenoid valves too, I was fortunate to be guided by other members here and found out that 70kpa of pressure is required for valves to work properly before outlaying any money.

There are others who are using added pumps to solve filling GBs in series and another forumer is using power door actuators to flood GBs in series - love to have more input on your setup ..... more pictures needed .... please

So SS it will be Steve, but you will have to do the change, I don't have that option.
Also Steve, this thread were supposed to be in the Vic. folder. could you move it there if posible pls., my fault, my apologies.

EKB, remember reading about it, have nearly a dozen solenoids from the watering sys. that had to pull down. It would work with a big enough pump but would be too power wastefull in the long run.

TT, you shouldn't pay more than $20 for barrels. That's what I paid for each and the recyclers in Dandy charge the same for washed out barrels.

FF, and all, have five barrel tanks ready, soaking, and working on five barrel grow beds, plus two beds (one barrel cut across in half).
Will use gravel at the bottom for drainage, bud would like to try 50+50 mix cocopeat with pine bark and 50+50 mix cocopeat with cypress chips as growing medium.
Using about half half cocopeat and mushroom compost as my potting mix. Cheep and works prity well.

When ready, will have to flash the sys. and start first wiht some yabbies and if going OK, then get silver perch.
Got space to expand but it will depend on the initial success and the blessing of the higher authority.

When I get some picks will start a new thread in the members section.
Cheers, SS

SS, please don't use the pine bark or the cypress pine as grow media. There are lots of chemicals in those products that will be harmful to you and your fish. Some one has already tried it unsuccessfully.

Hi.
I'm setting up a new system in Brunswick. A new job delayed me a bit but I think I'm ready for fish now.
Unfortunately it seems there aren't many fish around at this time of year.
I want about 50 silver(or preferably jade) perch and about 20 eel tailed catfish. I have just over a thousand litres of tank space and it is in a (crappy) greenhouse so the jades should be warm enough through winter.
Can anyone suggest somewhere within a pleasent sundays drive of Melbourne that has fish available at the moment, preferably for about a dollar each? Not keen on mail order from QLD and not many places send that few fish anyway.

Kangaroo Fish Farm Ben. Ph 9712 0500. They will hook you up with 20cm Silvers for 2 bucks that will get ur system popping straight away. Lindsay will also give you the obligatory tour. Glenwaters buy their fish from these guys and onsell apparently.
Take the missus out 2morra morning for brekky in the valley and pick ur fish up after!
Welcome.

Hi I'm in FOREST HILL and keen to catch up and have a chat with people with running systems.
I'm in the process of setting up a basic system with a blue barrel for fish tank and 2 half barrels for grow beds, using 7mm scoria. Currently have 7 yabbies and was struggling to find appropriate fish. the system should be running in a week. No photos as yet when, a can get a camera.
