thanks people for the well wishes, the house, structurally is sound, just everything within is cactus, its going to be a hell of a job. i am so greatful that we werent home and also that i have a great family to call on.
Once i get my tablet up and running i will post some photos as i havent worked out my new phone yet to be able to re size the photos, but inside is like the post cards of Kalgoolie at night (very black).
my plan with the new IBC will be to fill it up and aerate it for a week or so to try and reduce the chlorine. our PH is stupidly high here as the de-salinisation plant has changed the conditions of our water of the last 2 years. i had a pig of a time sorting out my aquarium chemical levels when we starting using water from the de-sal plant. i will probably try to lower the PH somewhat as well before connecting it to the system.

Salvaged my tablet from the mess. Im amazed its even working. The fire dept made sure it wasnt on fire. Better that than letting the house burn though. Thanks again to all CFS volunteers. Anyhow see some photos of the mess and the garden progress.

Sorry about the damage. It looked like quite a nice kitchen.

Smoke gets through everything when this happens :(

Thanks for the well wishes guys. At the moment its giving me heaps of time on the AP. we are still waitingon the insurance company. Ive finished the front wicking bed, all planted out with kale, rocket, cos, oregano, capsicum, eeg plant and a rasberry bush. The seeds have already begun to pop up.
AP wise, I have cut the top off the 2nd ibc, and prepared the site for its position within the shed. This one will have the trout in it, and I will most probably put some silver perch in the existing ibc. My thoughts on the redfin that I have will be to put them in my damaged 200 liter aquarium, as they are so small and I reckon they are going to take a while to grow.

Back at it, sorry its been soooo long to continue my story. Things have been slow. I have now expanded my blue barrel system. The expansion firstly began with the addition of an old trough of somesort that has been hanging around for the last 12 years. I sealed the
Inside with pond sealer and painted the outside. It has a bell siphon (aphnan's) and drains to the sump. Over the christmas period, we experienced stupid hot conditions. The result was I lost all but 5 of my 20 goldfish. I knew that there was no way silver perch and definately not trout would survive the water temps swinging so much. So in came ibc number one to the rescue. I have positioned it in the garden shed, out of direct sun light. The only problem that I faced was the 800 litres of mains water has killed the bacteria in the grow beds and the plants has slowed in their growth. Most recently I have aquired 8 acrylic bath tubs. So one has been setup as onother gb. Fish wise I now have 15 gold fish and around 30 redfin fingerlings. Caught the redfin at a local lake, which will be put into anaquarium once I get my first order of trout.)

It's a good thing you were only joking about the redfin.

I'm pretty sure it's against some law or another, as they are an introduced species, and the same laws apply to them as carp.

just double checked ...

Quote:
Redfin are declared by regulations to be exotic - consequently it is an offence to keep this species alive, to move it (or any other species) from one waterway to another or to return it to the water.

Dont stress Bull, they all died. I think they were too small and didnt take to any feed. Also after studying the dead ones i dont belive they were redfin, but minos or some sort of small feeder fish. They didnt resemble anything like a redfin. Anyhooow, i was much better at keeping trout. Theyve grown out to a great size and taste great. Next on the adgenda is the silvers and further grow bed expansion. I still have a number of bathtubs to setup. I apreciate the feedback on the redfin. I dont think i will be trying to catch anytime soon as the trout are brilliant and i hope the silvers and just as successfult

:D

I don't actually care or anything.

Actually I do care, but not about you. Anyone investing in aquaponics tends not to be the type of person to let fish go into waterways.

We tend to eat them :)

Anyway, it's good they turned out to be something else :)
