Hi all.

I've got these little buggers on my cauliflower plants.

Are they aphids? They don't look like photos I've found of them. And I think I saw a moth flying away quickly when I was taking photos.

And if identified, any good ways to knock them on the head?

looks like cabbage aphid to me. Check out http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12442&hilit=cabbage+aphid
They are a bugger to get rid of as they multiply so quickly and the predators cant seem to get on top of them.

These things are evil. Stay on top of it or they will take over.

Here are some suggested treatments for the infestation. NOTE Note all methods are appropriate for AP.

Botanical pesticides

Ginger rhizome extract
Grind 50 g of ginger and make into paste. Mix with
3 liters of water. Strain. Add 12 ml of soap. Mix well.
Ten (10) kg of ginger is needed for 1 ha.

Custard apple leaf extract
Boil 500 g of leaves in 2 liters of water until the
remaining liquid is about ½ liter. Strain. Dilute filtrate
with 10 -15 liters of water.

Spray solutions
Ammonia spray
Mix 1 part ammonia with 7 parts water. This spray
also controls flea beetles.

Soap spray
Mix 2½ tablespoons of liquid soap to a gallon of
water.

Tirobb - did you mean to say NOT all methods are appropriate for AP?

Is that just the normal dishwashing detergent (morning fresh type)?
