Anyone know how to legally boost mobile phone coverage at home? Our new place only has one bar when you stand out on the front lawn on one foot with your tongue to the side. Apparently its like that around most of the area.

Telstra have a repeater on offer but its about $700

Telstra will discount the repeater if you ask nicely, brings it down to only around $500...
And you can stick an external aerial on it, so buy a carkit antenna and add to your tv antenna aerial.
They work great... just the initial outlay

Nice one yabbies :) I look like a big enough goose as it is.

So a repeater would be an only option? Are there other brands that are worth considering?

cheers

The microwave would certainly mean that a lack of signal on your phone is no longer an issue...

Charlie you can get after market signal boosters, however they aren't licensed to Telstra, so are technically illegal....

Telstra gave us a device for when we couldnt get the net over our phone line. They stuck it on our roof and it let me use the net again. That might mean they are compelled by law to give you internet better than 28k dialup speeds. That MIGHT (pure speculation) mean it's the same device that's used to boost a phone signal and could be free.

You could probably get a car kit and use it hands free with your phone in the cradle mounted on your fridge door or something.

or do a search for Yagi

or look here http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2104058

or if the repeater works for more than one phone, you could get your neighbours to chip in on a share device. They are probably having similar problems.

As someone who doesnt have a mobile and doesnt know anything about them, the repeater sounds like the best way.
The only way i could think of is to use your internet connection, wifi and skype on your phone - not sure how useful it would be though.

Check if there is another company offering coverage. Do you know anyone with an Optus phone? When we first got down here we could get Optus but not Telstra. A few years later Telstra put in a new tower and we we able to change back to Telstra

Put in a complaint to the ombudsman (after whinging in writing to the provider, and keep the evidence). Took me 6 months a few years ago but I think they are more responsive now. :)

Nextivity Telstra Cel-Fi 3G Smart Repeater & Booster. Not cheap. Kogan sells them. You need an antenna as well. Definitely works. I was out at remote sites where cellphone reception was very borderline. With it, we got good reception, even full bar on some days. This boost reception for somewhat the same area as wifi reception so multiple users benefit instead of only one phone.

If you have a antennae plug on your phone it is all you need most places. My phone will only ring at the workshop but if I plug it into the ute it works fine, four bars. You can get a top of the range antennae for $140.The cheap one seems to work just as well.

Thanks for all the help guys, we have iphones and Im sure the 5C is a blue tick but not sure about the 5S but either way they both don't work.

telonlines comments are interesting because Mrs Charlie's mum has optus and her phone does work better there. How could that be possible? We are with Telstra.

That's the repeater I was looking at Ivan, may be the way to go.

Spins me out that I can get service here out in the middle of nowhere in the goldfields but when you 30 minutes from the goldcoast you get bugger all..../??
