The carpet offcuts are a really good way of protecting your liner,i have used this method myself in the past.

Where is a good place to get it from (cheaply)? Gumtree doesn't have much. :(

Found some used rugs on gumtree for $10. Should do the trick.

Well, I'm still waiting for my pond liner to arrive (hopefully monday), I've been putting stupidly large amounts of water in there, and it's draining at over 10L - 20L an hour, I had another attempt with milk to find the leak, but no joy. Probably a silly time to continue with the expansion.

But...

$50 worth of steel:

$75 worth of plywood:

And I've got my next smaller grow beds. For $125 (not including some silicone + epoxy resin I had lying around), I've got two 1m x 1m grow beds.

I'm going to use these as fruit tree beds. So I bought a dwarf blood orange, and a dwarf red ducca banana.

Hey Col, good luck with those fruit trees, that looks cool.

Nice handiwork on the beds - very impressive.

Regards, Martin.

Well, I had a bit of a tragic events with my Cod. :(

I got the pond liner out, but it became a bigger job than I imagined. So I relocated the Cod into the top up tank, and had to leave them there for a few days because I ran out of time, and had to work late Friday night.

I had a bubbler in there (about 300L), didn't feed them, and checked Ammonia + nitrite, and both came out as nothing.

But I ended up with 28 of them dying :(

I'm a bit gutted about that. So I think I have about 10 left in there. Along with the goldfish, but nothing can kill the goldies.

And it's still leaking. I think I know where it is (between the pond liner and 90mm pipe), and I cut the pond liner at 11pm at night, and cut it in the wrong place (stupid mistake, I didn't put the water in before I cut it, and the water pulled it down), so I had to use plenty of sealant. But nothing sticks well to the pond liner.

If it's still leaking, I think I might just buy several bags of concrete, and line it all with that. But I'll have to research that, I haven't done much lining with concrete.

But I got a chance to start on my next GB's.

Enough steel for two GB's.

And the first one welded up.

There will be two x 3.4m x 1.2m DWC. Gravity fed from the other DWC. But if I can't get the DWC going properly, I can still convert it into a gravel bed.

Sorry to hear you lost all those Murray Cod Colum :support:

Are you planning on putting your banana and orange into the GB media directly, or leave them in pots?
I've had a Red Dacca in a large pot in the GB for a few months and it seems to be doing ok so far.

It'll be in the GB soil without the soil.

I'd imagine the pots getting root clogged, and getting cut apart from the pots itself.

Have you had any fruit off the Red ducca yet?

I've got no idea what it'll be like, the ad said it'd be sweeter, and have a slightly raspberry taste.

No bananas yet- we have a couple on the veranda in pots too- although the frost in winter has knocked them back a couple of times.

The other frame is welded up, and I've gotten one completed, and piped into the system (almost).

And I'm finally starting to get a little growth in the DWC.

I got called columnmn by some stoner friends in high school. And I like it for forums, and signing up for places. Nobody else has that name, so I don't have to remember different b names for different places.

I'm excited to have more beds up and running!

Colum or Col works :-)
