trying to make use of extra stuff I had laying around at my small farm, I used 2 old water troughs. I had to line the galvanized tub to keep it safe, I found a great deal on some pond liner. the water has been running in the system for 2 weeks now. I put in some duckweed to see how it would do. added some gold fish to get a cycle going. I still have to fill my grow bed with media. and I know I need to add another grow bed but I wanted to get the system up and running. going to build a cover for it to keep the birds and critters out.

The pump was off to the side waiting on some
Glue to dry. Currently i am using a pond filter
Basket and pump. Looking forward to adding
My tilapia soon. I used 3/4" liquidtight conduit
Around the top to hold the liner in place

i see it now. good idea on the flex conduit to hold liner in place. Did you just split it with a razor and push it on? Lots of tilapia places around this area. Start with 8-10, let the system cycle and then add some more. You could add some towers, another GB, a DWC bed, or combination of all. With a 400 gal FT, you could pretty easily stock at 80-100 fish providing you have the ratio of filter(GB's/towers, etc) material. get a cheap air back up..in case power goes out, and you should be good. The whites are a faster grower then the blues. I'm testing some Hawaiian Gold, and they seem to be faster still. Hoping to be moving them outside shortly, and then begin breeding them. The blues and white breed easily.
