I use a dehydrator. I scoop the flesh out with a spoon - trying to get strips about 1 cm thick. Run it for 24 hours in the dehydrator on low heat. Works like a charm/

Its time for an update. I have changed some of by growbeds into wicking beds. I never have had success with onions in the growbeds so decided to construct the half barrel wicking beds. Have planted one gravel and one wicking bed with onions to see what works best. The competition is on!

Am also trying cherry tomatoes in the DWC. The cherry tomatoes in the growbeds is doing great but i had a few open spots in the DWC so am giving the tomatoes it a go. The waste from the DWC is going to the giant Atlantic pumpkins in the garden. I saw some of these at Longwood gardens in Pennsylvania last year and am trying some in the dirt garden in Perth (fueled with the waste from the prefilter).

PS - Longwood gardens should be a mandatory pilgrimage for all keen gardeners. It is an example of when a passion for gardening is underpinned with untold wealth!

In prep for the change in season i did some serious renovation to my system this weekend. I didn't change any of the aquaponics components - the modifications is intended to better make use of the vertical space above the beds.

I lifted the roof over the DWC - this allows me now to walk the entire length of the setup on top without bumping my head. After seeing the excellent video on the forum on how to grow tomatoes in a greenhouse, i also added cross beams at the top that allows me to string down guiding ropes to support the tomatoes.

I had to clean the grow beds from the rampant cantaloupes. I had so much - even after dehydrating - that the rest is going the chooks. I estimate that i got more than 100 fruit from 6 plants! I then planted some Siberian Tomatoes in the cleaned growbeds. I am keen to see if i can still get a crop before the end of the season.
