Hello everyone! Just getting started. I have a 500 gallon cone bottom tank, a pump and a small pond for the sump. I am still trying to figure out what I want to do for grow beds. Whatever it is it has to look nice or I can't have it in the yard. :)
I got lucky and got the tank for free because the top was broken and I just cut it down to fit in my yard. The pond should have been put in a few years ago but life got in the way and it just never happened. Well now it has a purpose so I guess I better get it done. I plan on running this system as CF to keep things simple. I'm sure I'll have tons of questions as I start the plumbing. Thanks to everyone here for the inspiration to start this adventure. This is gonna be fun.

Fun way to add a bulkhead fitting! Didn't have the proper hole saw so I had to MacGuyver it. :)

Suggesting a third set of legs on the growbed seems like a good idea.

Great idea JeffB! What do you think about a steel frame with plywood sides and bottom?

If you know how to weld and own a welder . . . go for it.

Ok that's what I'm gonna do! I do custom metal art sometimes and that is what's helping to fund this system. In our dry climate the steel would be ok unless I have tons of leaks or something. Would be easy to make doors for the bottoms to hide the plumbing and create a little storage space too. I would like to have the beds set high like Faye's system. I figure I could do 3 beds that were 4' x 6' and still have a little space between them. The gap between the tank and the sump is 16'. It would be real easy to add trellis and shade covers with the steel also. Yes I'm typing and thinking at the same time so I'm all over the place. Thanks for the ideas they really help!!!

Here's a sample of the artwork:

Made a drain cover with a stainless disk that I had lying around today. I didn't want to drill hundreds of holes in it so I cut some slots in it that could be angled against the swirl of the tank to help scoop the solids towards the drain. I don't know if it will work but it sure was fun making it. What do you think am I crazy?

Side view of the cover. Hopefully it doesn't act like a cheese grater! :)

Wow, that video of the round house system is amazing.

Rayray - very nice work. Is that gate made from rebar? I like it!

Thanks on the gate. Yes it is rebar. The client wanted something with "texture". It hard to get rebar to look good so I got lucky and it worked.

Thanks HC! That stainless disc was a yardage marker on a golf course in it's previous life. I love to repurpose stuff into useful items. :)

Thanks Tang Mo! Being called an artiste is really cool. I just think that I get lucky sometimes when I build things and they look nice. :)
